Many craft retailers offer coupons and regular sales so you can snag some awesome budget-friendly decor. But what if you live in a rural area and you can’t hop in the car and hit your favorite craft store anytime you want?

THE BEST FARMHOUSE FONTS

Before we get started on the different ways to make a farmhouse sign, let’s take a closer look at all 24 Farmhouse quotes that come in this Farmhouse SVG Bundle.

Normally you see 2 different types of farmhouse signs. The first type you see is the one with maybe a single word or short 2-3 word phrase in a fun, chunky script font.

SCRIPT FARMHOUSE FONTS

My current favorite script Farmhouse Font and the one that I used in these designs is called Elderflower and you can purchase it HERE. It comes with the cutest farmhouse clip art also and for me getting 2 of the price of one is always a no-brainer.

BOLD FARMHOUSE FONTS

The second type of font you see in farmhouse signs are serif fonts in uppercase. I think the quote you use will determine what type of font you go with.

In certain cases you can use both types of fonts, depending on the look you’re going for.

I usually just play around with the lettering and try out several different fonts before I make my decision.

The farmhouse font I chose for the rest of the farmhouse quotes is called Farmhand Inline. You can purchase it HERE via Creative Fabrica.

CHEAP AND EASY DIY FARMHOUSE SIGNS

Over the last few years I’ve made a handful of farmhouse signs for my home. The easiest way to make a farmhouse sign one is to just use a painted wood board. No frame. No Fuss. You will want to sand and paint it first though.

Next, decide on a phrase and type it out in your favorite farmhouse font. After that, cut your farmhouse saying out of vinyl using your Cricut.com Cricut, Cameo or whatever electronic cutting machine you use.

From that point on you can decide if you are going to just adhere the vinyl to your board and call it done or you can choose to use the farmhouse saying as your stencil, paint over it and then peal it off.

HOW TO MAKE A FARMHOUSE SIGN

TIP 1 : If you go with the stencil method make sure you paint your board the color you want your lettering to be. This method takes a little longer but it’s my favorite way to make signs.

TIP 2: If you go with the stencil method, it is been my experience to do a very, very light coat of paint just around the word itself. I use one of these sponge brushes and very lightly dab around the word and let dry for a little bit.

I do this so that paint won’t seep under the vinyl lettering causing it to bleed.

I’ve heard that you can also use a light coat of Mod Podge over the lettering to seal the edges and then paint right over it. Either way, do one of these to ensure you have the cleanest lettering once you peel the vinyl off. I went into a little more detail in THIS post.
