Making Time for God When You’re a Busy Mom

I’m sitting at a local car repair shop getting my van inspected (Mr. GC has all 3 kids with him at home….oh glory day! I get some quiet time! LoL) and figured I would ask you guys a question. How do you make time for your relationship with God as s busy mom? I still struggle with making time for Him everyday. What creative ways do you spend time with the Lord? In the early morning before everyone wakes? A few minutes here and there throughout the day? Worship music while you cook or clean? I’d love to hear what you do. Tell me in the comments. 🙂

Now…..back to my peace and quiet…..;)

Just talking to God about my day as I go. I’ll ask, “Did you see that? Of course you did, you’re God.” It gives me a good chuckle but at the same time, I stay connected because I know that my work, my struggles and even my victories never go unnoticed even those around me fail to acknowledge anything.

  2. I have a hard time making time in the morning, probably because my time for sewing is later at night, but I think it comes in different ways for me. Like you said, worship music while I’m in the kitchen, I try to read a few verses and then pray AFTER we eat during the day with my kids. They are already sitting there, so we just keep a few Bibles on the table and we all get a “helping” of the Living Word. Even that isn’t perfect or is not something that is legalistic, but just if we can, we do! And then, I try to have a few GREAT Christian blogs that I read. I LOVE Ann Voskamp’s A Holy Experience blog, that’s my absolute fav! Then, Beautifully Rooted is another great one! Besides that and trying to carve out time for reading God’s Word myself, I think trying to talk regularly to a best friend that loves Jesus, because she can always encourage my heart in Him! I think, mostly, though, we just have to remember that this IS a busy season as a mom and God is right there to walk with through it! I often remember that he has told me he will NEVER leave me or forsake me EVEN NOW!

  3. A little over two years ago I joined Kat at Inspired To Action blog in the Hello Morning challenge. Since then I strive to get up an hour or more before the kids get up. I aim to use that time to listen to worship music, read my Bible, pray and plan out my day. It was going strong for about a year but things have slipped away from me. I notice a HUGE difference in my attitude and the way my day goes when I spend first thing in the morning with my Father. My goal is to get back into that habit for sure!!

  4. Not a coincidence–I am working on a post related to this exactly! I hope to post it today @ http://www.wateringcanblog.com, but basically I learned to enjoy God’s presence throughout the day. Worship is not an event, but an attitude. I practice it several ways. Listening to worship music and talking to God throughout the day, focusing on His Word by posting it everywhere and memorizing it helps keep ME focused! Of course reading it–sometimes early, sometimes late and sometimes often during the day as I find myself looking up a verse that has come to mind or one that I need to be reminded of. I came to realize as a young mom that a “quiet time” can be rare, but when we keep our hearts and minds foused on Him, we can walk in fellowship with Him throughout our day!

  5. I have a fairly long commute to work, so I pray the Rosary on the way. It also makes for more patient, peaceful driving.

  8. First, I find it REALLY awesome when I can be part of a regular Bible study of some sort … I find this is the only thing that actually holds me accountable and keeps me focussed and in the Word as much as I want to be.
Worship is ALWAYS on in the car …
And I try to take a few minutes late at night, after everyone is in bed, to thank Him for the many blessings He has given me!
It may not be much … but it’s about all I can seem to manage! 🙂

  9. I still struggle with this too. Especially now that it’s summer break and both kids are home all day. I like to listen to KLOVE throughout the day, while I’m cleaning, sewing, sitting on the beach. I also talk to God throughout the day, just like I do my husband and children. As far as studying I am a night owl so I like to study late at night after everyone is in bed and it’s quiet. It’s the only time I might not get interrupted :o)

  10. I struggle with this as well, but I do love the Mom’s of faith blog. It has been helpful! Thanks for the post.

  11. I don’t know if this will help, but I see God in everything!!! When the birds are singing in the morning, and I’m exhausted still, I say “Thank you” to My Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. When someone cuts me off in traffic, I “TRY” to remember to ask the Lord to Bless the poor person, so full of anger and haste. I prolong our Blessings that we say before each meal to include all that we are so Blessed to have, be, or do, and try to remember and say it always, only by The Grace of God. Daily Inspirationals, devotional or opening the Bible to wherever He leads, always seem to lead me back to where my mindset and intentions should be. As I write this, it is also in what you are doing, asking the question…Sharing your testimony, Living in His Word! God Bless you, Theresa.
ps Pray for me, as well, I write what I do, but it always takes work to remember to do it.
