Last week I needed to come up with a birthday gift for my Secret Sister at church. I wound up picking up a package of floursack dish towels at Target that I wanted to embellish. Not realizing they were so big, I only wound up using 2 and had 2 left.

Rewind a few weeks ago, my daughter got sick in the car one day on the way home from church……all over my Bible. 🙁 I had to go out and get a new one because there was no salvaging the other one and taking advantage of any excuse to sew, I decided that my new Bible needed a little tote bag to carry it in.

So, I used one of the floursack dish towels that I had left over and made this:

I’m really happy with how it came out. One thing that I didn’t do but should have was given the bag some lining as well as some interfacing to help sturdy it up (it’s a bit flimsy) but overall I’m really pleased. One floursack was all it took. 🙂

Very cute! I love the ruffles! I just got a ruffler for my sewing machine…I’m hoping it makes ruffle making easier:)

  3. Oh my goodness, that is adorable. I soooo envy you right now. I just finished my first quilt (I linked it to your party the other day) and realized I am NOT a seamstress. I can knit, but I don’t think sewing is my thing. When/how did you learn? I’ve always wanted to be able to make things with my sewing machine, but they always come out a bit off! It’s absolutely darling. Nice job.
