WHAT TO SERVE WITH CORN CHOWDER

Before we get to the recipe, let’s talk about what to serve with corn chowder. As mentioned earlier you can certainly eat it alone and use it as the main dish. If you choose to go with just a cup of this creamy corn chowder, there will be plenty of room to add a complimentary side dish. Here are some of the best side dishes that go hand in hand with this delicious soup.

GARLIC BREAD

Garlic bread is never the wrong choice when you are looking for a little something extra to add to your main course. Enjoy traditional garlic bread with butter and herbs or take it one step further and add melted cheddar cheese.

GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH

In my opinion a grilled cheese sandwich goes with everything. Some of my favorite breads to make grilled cheese with are sourdough bread, challah bread, country white bread and crusty bread. There are so many different ways to make grilled cheese from homemade fresh bread to various cheese combinations.

BUTTERMILK BISCUITS & DINNER ROLLS

Do I really need to explain why biscuits and a nice hearty soup like corn chowder served together is a good idea? Graze on your biscuit while dipping it in your corn chowder and you’ll be in heaven. Take the bread one step further and make cheese biscuits instead.

SIMPLE GREEN SALAD

Corn chowder is not exactly a health food but consider pairing a cup of it with a refreshing salad. You can have the best of both worlds with this delicious combination.

Some other favorite sides to serve with corn chowder are black beans, green beans, onion rings or a tomato sandwich.

Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Nothing says comfort food more than this delicious Creamy Corn Chowder. This recipe is the perfect weeknight meal for families on the go. Serve it as a complete meal or add a tasty side like garlic bread, grilled cheese or a tomato sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 teaspoons unsalted butter
  • 2-3 cups chicken broth
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 5 cups fresh or frozen corn
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 slices bacon, already cooked, chopped
  • 3 green onions, sliced

Instructions

    1. Wash, dry, prep your vegetables and set aside.
    2. In your Dutch oven or large pot, add in the butter and sauté the onions until they are translucent.
    3. Next, add in the potatoes, salt, and chicken broth and turn the burner to medium and let the chowder simmer for 30 – 40 minutes or until the potatoes are soft.
    4. Then, add in your corn and continue cooking for 15 minutes. Then add in the heavy whipping cream and milk. Let the chowder continue to simmer until the milk and cream have warmed up.
    5. Serve and top with bacon and the sliced green onions.

Notes

Feel free to omit the salt if you are worried about the chowder being too salty due to the chicken broth. You can also add water to the chowder to help tone it down a bit. Remember, it’s easier to ADD salt than remove it.

You may need to adjust your cooking time depending on whether you use fresh or frozen corn.
