Just Something I Whipped Up
So, I worked on this little project the other day with a pair or teeny tiny baby pants I found laying around but had a bit of a problem. I realized after I had done my sewing that I have no idea what the secret is to sewing on stretchy material? I had started with a straight stitch and then realized the seams rip when I stretched the fabric. So, what’s the secret? Someone fill me in. Please. 🙂
- Add a link to a specific post not your blog homepage.
- Can be anything you’ve been working on from recipes, to sewing, to mod podge, to a before and after, to a room re-do, to………..well you get the idea. 🙂
- It would be really cool if you could grab a button and add it to your blog somewhere, I’m not picky.
Happy Linking!

There is a stitch called a stretch stitch. Look in your sewing machine manual. It looks kind of like a zigzag stitch but a little different. Hope you can figure it out!

Thanks for hosting. I'm a new follower.

Most machines have 2 ways to stretch stitch. One is a zigzag which doesn't give the most professional look on the right side of the fabric. Another takes 2 steps forward and 1 step back and that gives the thread some give when it stretches. It is also very very helpful to stretch the fabric as you sew. Good luck.
I love your party. I get confused every once in a while when you switch over to this site. I should check both. I love how you have everything from sewing to decorating to cooking. There is always way too many fun things to learn. I love to visit as many as I can. -
Another thought on sewing with knits. I get much better results with a ball point needle designed for knit fabrics. It doesn't tear through the links that create the fabric, it pushes them to the side.

Thanks for hosting this link party!

Oh thats lovely!! Im off to check some of the links on here!!

Hi, I see you got lots of answers to your sewing stretch material question already. I can only agree with previous commenters, use the stretch stich are a small zigzag, use the right kind of needle (very important) and if you have it use the double transport. Happy sewing.
And thanks for hosting the party! I am glad I could link up. -
Thanks for hosting. I was so glad to be able to link up and show off my recipe for how to make a pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin. It's quite the tradition at our house.

Ball point needle and if the fabric is really stretchy or thing, zig zag stitching or an overlock stitch. A lot of people swear by using serger machines for knits (mine is still unused after 6mos because it's so complicated & I"m lazy).
Personally I've had pretty good luck with straight stitching on most stretch knits. It's usually the tissue thin or jersey ones that don't behave very well. For the hems & cuffs I use Fold Over Elastic which works great. I'm featuring stretch fabric projects with FOE all week on my blog & doing a giveaway for some too. Stop by if you can - it might help with your dilemma:) -
What a party! I'm going to be up all night reading all the fun things on here :-)
Thanks for hostessing.
