Hi Everyone, It’s Amy from Unforgettable Childhood. We are eagerly anticipating our first trip to Disney World in May.
One of the snowy winter days that we had the girls helped me with a Countdown to Disney Wall Hanging. As we started to assemble the project I realized that I wanted to make it last for other future events. I do not have a sewing machine so all of the sewing portions needed to be hand stitched. I decided that the best material for the project would be felt.
We started with felt, a wooden dowel, black cotton fabric, two buttons and velcro.
I sewed the black fabric to the top of the red felt to hang the Countdown on the dowel while the girls painted the dowel black.
I printed off the words Countdown to Disney World on the computer. After cutting out the Countdown to in black I glued these letters to the felt. I cut out the individual Disney World letters and glued them to red felt.
I used velcro to attach Disney World. After this trip I can change out the Disney World words for our next adventure.
I attached stick on velcro circles for the seven week countdown.
I cut the Mickey Ears out of Black felt and attached the other side of the velcro to the backs.
I attached a pocket onto the bottom of the countdown with buttons for the ears as they are taken off of the Countdown.
Here is the finished project. The girls can’t wait to start the countdown. Unfortunately we are still more than 70 days out from the trip so they have a few weeks to wait before they can start removing the Mickey Ears.
I am excited to adapt this Countdown to future vacations. The girls think that their next trip is to Hawaii. I can already envision sitting here cutting out surf boards or palm trees.
XOXO
Diana
