Remember this mantle?
(Who am I kidding, it’s just a shelf but it does the job that any normal mantle would do and that’s good enough for me!)
This was back in February when I shared my LOVE Subway art. Not that I didn’t like how this looked but with the fall season here (FINALLY! I love this cool, crisp weather!) I wanted to change the look of my “mantle”. I made a few quick changes and I didn’t spend a dime.
The first thing I did was take those blue candles and covered them in some fall, polka dot scrapbook paper. No fire hazard here! We don’t light them – they are just for show. 🙂 Then I replaced my subway art with a simple “Give Thanks” sign that I whipped up using some paint, wood scraps, glue and some FREE chevron paper that you can download HERE.
(Note: I added a worn overlay over the chevron you see pictured here but the one for download is just a standard smooth finish)
I added some glitter pumpkins and some wood pumpkins that I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby a few years ago and placed them on the other side of the mantle to balance it out.
I didn’t have any fall candy on hand to put inside the apothecary jar that I made awhile back (you can find an easy tutorial over at Shanty 2 Chic) so I just rolled up some scrapbook paper and popped it inside. Perfect! You can even just put some berry garland in there too if you have some. Or maybe even some popcorn kernels – that would be fun!
Lastly I added a banner that says “FALL” (tutorial HERE) to the old, vintage window that I keep up year round. It makes a great backdrop for every season or just everyday decor.
Totally loving how it came up. Glad I took some pictures so I can re-create it for next year. 🙂
