Latitude-Longitude Wall Art

Hey folks, It's Jenn from A Jennuine Life with this month's Thrifty to Nifty project.  I'm here to share an easy home decor project I made from materials I had on hand - Latitude/Longitude Wall Art. These coordinates are for the exact location where my husband and I first met at a summer party held by a pair of mutual friends.  This could be a great gift idea since you could choose any location with meaning - first meeting, homes you've lived in; the possibilities are endless! … [Read more...]

Anthro-esque Pillow Makeover

Usually, my posts here on TGC consist of ways to repurpose my thrifted finds. But every now and then, I run across something that—even though it really can’t serve another purpose—would sure look a heckuva lot better with a little “sprucing.” So, today’s post is all about revitalizing a thrifted find—specifically a funky $4 pillow I found at Goodwill that possessed at least a hint or two of Anthropologie-esque appeal. We’ll start with the before, just so your expectations can be at rock bottom. I know. Pretty unfortunate, right? I just had to rescue her! And since I tend to associate Anthro pillows with unexpected color schemes and florals + animal references, I decided to run with the vision in my head and see what I could come up with. Here’s what I started out with: … [Read more...]

Anthropologie Trinket and Treasure Knock-offs

I was going to start this post by saying that I’m as Anthropologie-obssessed as the next girl. But I’m probably not. In fact, I know I’m not. Because when I get my latest Anthro catalogue in, I do some oohing and aaahing and maybe a little (okay, a lot) of drooling. But then, my next thought is not: How can scrape together enough money to buy that to-die-for $428 cashmere coat or that $350 bedspread? Nope. It’s something a little more like: Is there any way I can possibly knock this off for about 1,000% less? Which is honestly exactly what I thought when I first spotted Anthro’s Trinket and Treasure Candlesticks: I can’t even tell you exactly why, but it was love at first sight. Perhaps it was the touches of whimsy, the contrasting textures and shapes, the … [Read more...]

{Wait! Save that Jar!}

Thursday I wrote a post about how I had an idea while driving in the car which led to THIS project. While on the way home I was thinking that I hoped I remembered my idea in the first place because a lot of times my mind is going in a million different directions I swear I have ADD and thoughts come...........and they go. Thankfully I did remember but who's to say I won't forget some other idea. I don't know about you but I do most of my crafting in my kitchen. I've been known to make quite a mess too but it's all in the name of blogging, right? I do have a craft room but the heat is broken in there and my girls tend to run a muck when I go in there anyway.Anyhow, I came up with this idea to make a jar that I could keep in the kitchen and whenever I had an idea for a project, I could … [Read more...]

{Pillow Case Dress Re-purpose}

Yesterday I featured an adorable apron from Kate Designs {The Blog}. Since I had some baking to do and I know my girls would want "in" on it, I decided to make ones for each of them. Funny how life is sometimes. I remember years ago when my sisters (I have 3) and I were younger, my nana had made us these yellow and white striped aprons to wear at one of her backyard parties. We were NOT happy about it. I think I was about 8 or 10. She made us wear them and then pose for a picture (I'll have to dig that up and post one day). I hate stuff like that. And now, here I am, 20+ years later making aprons for my girls. They were happy to wear them though. :) Yay girls!!! Anyhow, I had picked up some fabric at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago and decided that I would use it on the aprons. While looking … [Read more...]

{Corner Nook Bench Re-do}

A few years back we had a corner nook in our ever so small kitchen. We thought it would save us so space but it really didn't. Since then we have taken it out of our kitchen and replaced it with a little pub table that seems to work fine. This little guy has been sitting in our basement just screaming for a makeover. And since I've been home with a sick child (and well now another sick child) and managed to get a handle on the housework and laundry, I thought I would reward myself with this little project. The seat opens up and has storage space. I thought this would be a great addition to my office/craft room. I need a place to store some of my favorite fabrics so that I have easy access to them. I used Rustoleum spray paint (my first time using spray paint, can you believe that? … [Read more...]

{Went a little Mod Podge Crazy}

Within the last week or 2 I've gone a little Mod Podge crazy. With no extra money to spend and desperate to do something crafty, I decided to repurpose some crap I had around the house. And by crap, I do mean garbage.The first little item used to be an empty container of Whey Protein the that my husband drinks. It was just sitting around as were coffee filters that had no home so I thought "hmmmm, this might be fun". So, I cut the container in half, mod podged some leftover scrapbook paper and ribbon to it and this is what I got. The perfect little bin for my coffee filters.In my cabinets I had taken an empty box of fruit snacks and stashed my craft supplies in it. I had some leftover scrapbook paper from this project and decided that I could dress it up a bit with those. So, I did just … [Read more...]
