How to Keep Your Little Ones Busy While You Prepare for the Holidays

THIS is exactly what I do with it - and it's exactly how I manage to get any Christmas baking done after nap time.  Buy a few clearance rolls of gift wrap if you have kids around who like to color (I bought this one last year).  Ugly or nice paper, they won't care - that's lost in the fun of unrolling it.   This was an extra large roll of the kind that tears pretty easy.  I know you know what I mean.  The hellish paper your gift boxes poke every corner through - making you wish you'd spent a dollar more on the 'nicer' paper. Just a quick idea to save some holiday season sanity.  But, you may have to pause and trace a snow angel every now-and-then. @ The Heartland Due to the amount of content that is used without permission and proper credit, I am no longer allowing a … [Read more...]

{Gift Jars}

Awhile back I bought a box of 12 mason jars at Walmart for around 6 or 7 bucks and knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I wanted to make those cookie jar mixes. I had tried before and they did not come out so good. Not enough color. Too much white. You know the deal. So after researching them a bit, I found the perfect recipe over at Bakerella. Excited to give it a try, I went to work last night making 2 of them for Gracie's preschool teachers. They came out great I thought. Being tired of spending every spare moment either baking or at the store shopping, I decided that they looked nice enough just as they are and that they didn't need a gift bag I was too tired and lazy to go out AGAIN and buy them. Boy was I wrong. And I have this photo below to prove it.Yup! There is my cookie … [Read more...]

{The Stockings Were Hung}

This past year we did a few projects around the house which required us to rent a dumpster or 2. During that time we cleaned out and organized our basement. I didn't have many Christmas decorations to begin with but I was pretty sure they did not make it into the "toss" pile. Well, when I was digging out our decorations I noticed that our stockings were missing. So, being a little bold and brave with my sewing machine, I decided to "try" and whip some up for us. I heard felt was pretty easy to sew with (and it was), so I picked some up at Hobby Lobby and used some fabric from my stash and this is what I got.Mine and the Mister's. His cuff should have been the same size as mine but when I was sewing the "loop" on for hanging, it got caught and I couldn't get it out was too lazy to try.I … [Read more...]

I made these Christmas Countdown blocks which I thought the girls would be super excited about. Turns out they're not, but I am so … [Read more...]

{Pottery Barn Inspired Candle Holder}

I've been noticing that Pottery Barn seems to be the inspiration for so many bloggers. I ordered my catalogs the other day and can't wait to get them in the mail. :) In the meantime, I browsed their website and came across something that I wanted to try. Now, my version is not exactly the same as theirs but PB definitely was the inspiration behind it.**Edit: I knew I had gotten my exact idea from Pottery Barn but couldn't find the picture. When I came across this one below, I thought it was it. THEN I came across the one below it and knew that THAT was IT!I saw this in their Holiday Decor section. I really like the berries surrounding the candle. I had a big old vase just sitting under my sink taking up space. I also had berry sprigs that I got at Hobby Lobby last week and thought that I … [Read more...]

{Countdown to Christmas Calendar}

Hi everyone, this is Amy from over at Unforgettable Childhood. I am already starting to think about the holidays at my house. I love Christmastime, it is my favorite time of the year.My girls did not have school on Friday. Whenever they do not have school one of the first things on their to-do list is a craft project. This how-to Advent Calendar was our Kids Create project for the week.This summer I saw a Christmas in July post over at Roots & Wings Co. that I had to bookmark for the holidays.We made a few adjustments to the supply list (we live in small town South Dakota without access to a lot of craft supplies.) The original post used a pizza pan. I could not find a pizza pan to use. I almost decided that we couldn't do the craft. We browsed the store a little more and found something … [Read more...]
