Have you been following my participation in the JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores Celebrate the Seasons campaign? For the past three months I, along with some other wonderful bloggers, have been given a theme and we have to create something surrounding that theme. Our theme for October was “spooky spaces“. November’s theme was “turkey tablescapes” and this month our theme is #fabulouslyfestive. Our task: create a craft, inviting room for family, festive decor or anything else that is fabulously festive. I have to admit, this was my favorite theme to date. I had an idea right out of the gate and I was finally able to pull it off in the midst of sick children, elf on a shelf adventures, Christmas shopping and planning a little getaway for my daughter’s 10th birthday this week.
I totally wanted to do the whole “read a Christmas book every night in December leading up until Christmas” thing but for some reason we have been so busy this month. We’ve barely even had time to do our regular advent activities each night. So, I thought it might be fun to create a cozy and inviting space in our living room that would remind us to make time to read together and make some memories.
I’m a little bit in love with chevron. I saw red and white chevron on Pinterest somewhere and thought how I would love to make some pillows like that for my living room for Christmas. So, I headed out to JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores and bought myself about a yard of fabric and make a simple pillow (shown in the photos). If you can sew a straight line, then you can make a pillow. I stuffed it with fiber fill which is pretty amazing. This is the third pillow that I’ve stuffed with fiber fill and my first 2 are still in great shape. Now, my kids can be, well how can I put this nicely………….a bit wild! The fact that the pillows I made are still nice and fluffy is a big deal. So I started my little space off with some throw pillows.
Of course what’s a story time space without some books so I took the basket that I used in this post (that I had picked up from JoAnn’s also) and put some Christmas books in it.
My living room is short on end tables so I took a few crates that I had purchased at JoAnn’s a few months ago, and created a little table next to our living room chair. I though it might be fun for my girls to plop down on the chair with the comfy pillows and books and have a place to keep a little snack of cookies and milk. And of course every drink tastes better in a mason jar so I used those too.
I originally planned on making 2 pillows but my sewing machine was being a pain (as usual! I swear that thing has a vendetta against me! lol) so I only made the one and used the remaining chevron fabric to cover my unfinished crates. That totally wasn’t planned but I love that it just happen to work with what I was doing.
This was such a fun little project for me to work on. I got all of my supplies at JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores; from the crates to the basket for the books to the fabric to the mason jars – JoAnn was my one-stop shop and I love when that happens!
