Vintage Nightstand Makeover

Hi everyone!

I’m Shanna here for my monthly contributor project from Restoration Redoux!

How is it already November? October went by in a flash!

My daughter is turning 16 and just got her restricted license, so if you live anywhere near me, stay off the roads! Just kidding! Kind of. It’s not the roads that give her grief … it’s the parking. You know when you go to Target, or the grocery store, and you see the cars parked at the far end of the parking lot and you assume that it is employee parking? Well one of them will be my daughter because she is parking as far away from other cars as possible to make sure she doesn’t hit one. She says it’s part of her new exercise program.

I also took part in a Blogger’s Halloween Home Tour which kept me scurrying around like a crazy person for two weeks. I have a furniture business from home, and when I have clients come over, they often talk me into selling my own personal pieces; so, when I found out about the tour, I literally had no furniture.

I had to come up with a buffet and a cabinet. So I had two weeks to not only go all out with Halloween decorations, most made my hand, but I had to complete the furniture that the decorations were going to be resting on!

So needless to say, I didn’t sleep for about a week — but I survived and the tour was a success!

Last month I shared with you the Union Jack Pillows I made, so this month I thought I would share a furniture piece.

I found this vintage nightstand at a yard sale this summer.

It was clunky, dirty, and dated in not a good way.

I started by removing the hardware and cleaning it up. I then mixed-up some coral chalk-based paint and gave it three coats.

I gave the inside of the drawers a bright lime green pop of color.

I then distressed the whole piece with a 150-grit sanding block.

Last, I went over the whole piece with Annie Sloan’s Dark Wax. I buffed the piece and repainted the hardware with and Oil Rubbed Bronze.

I think it would be perfect in a little girl’s bedroom!
